What will be new in Pastat sept. 2011

During last Ape-Inv conference in Brussels EPO disclosed what will be the new features in Patstat ediction of September 2011 and something that is under work...

Link to CITED APPLICATION ID:
tls212(citation table) will contain a new field with appln_id of cited patent.
Since some of them will not be in TL201, a new dummy with D3 application kind for applications missing in tls201 will be created.
Also citation generation authority field, that identifies the search authority, will be added.

New Tables:
TLS222 and 223 containing us and jp classifications will be available.

Number of claims:
In TLS211 will be added a field containing the number of claims for ep and us (granted only).

English abstracts for JP patents
Abstracts for japanese patents (9M) will be appended, in english.

FORTHCOMING
As asked in 2010 Patstat user conference in Vienna, addictional names and addreses for FR GB ES WO will be added when docdb is updated with new data.

NPL key field in TLS214 will be replaced with xp number in order to have normalized data.
Australian number of claims will be added
A legal event group code in prs (TLS219) will be created
Eventually a link to register backfile will be established.

How many application authorities are there in patstat?

In order to know what patent offices are available in patstat we know we can look @tables EPo publishes at this url:
http://www.epo.org/searching/essentials/data/tables.html

On the other hand we may also try counting from application table (TLS201) what are the distinct application authorities and in what year (filing year) are theyr application available in patstat.

I will consider data from 1960 onward, in patstat ediction 10/2010.

A sheer count distinct would lead to 163 application authorities.
So I'll also discard 41 authorities with less than 5 years of applications (AF AL AN AO AW BB BD BH BS BW BZ CG CI CM DM ER GA GN HN HT LR LS LY MG MO MR MU NA NP OM RS SB SL
SN SR TM TZ VA WO YE ZR... yes WIPO is among them)

I list here the authorities that have been active from 1998 to 2008 in patstat, leaving @this link the full list in XLS
